That’s right. The rack went back on. I love this thing. Took awhile for me to come around to it, but especially now that it’s on its way to being sticker bombed, I may leave it on more.
Also, mockup of the head unit placement in the dash. It’s getting there! I just need to buy a small rotary tool so I can trim the face place to fit the dash. I’ve got a friend who’s going to help me get this thing all hooked up Sunday... Fingers crossed. I THINK he knows what he’s doing...
Eventually I’ll get a matching knob for the HVAC blower. But the faceplate—and even the radio itself—really match the car interior which I’m so happy about.
Ugly hole shall be filled—and at least for now—the pocket will be retained. And I totally forgot that this car does in fact have cruises control. I should really hook that back up at some point...

Ahh! I love it! Someday I’ll get a tire carrier in the same position as that for winter offroad duties. I’ve seen what I thought was a crown vic done up like that... But now you’ve got me wondering if I just didn’t recognize the Avalon. Was this local?

A retrosound unit. And that is EXACTLY why I chose it. Super minimalist, while still being a solid HU with modern features.

It was on 124th at about QFC. It sounded mean too.

Any chance you could share a link for that luggage rack? It looks pretty nice.

Raceland, same brand as the coilovers that everyone says are garbage. Apparently they license the design (or just stole it...) from another company. Normally that would bug me... But it’s literally the exact same product for $150 whereas the original was, wait for it... $400. Ouch
Super solid rack, easy to attach and remove. It will make two tiny abrasions in the paint where the bar connects to the back of the truck, you might be able to stop this with a bit of foam, or some electrical tape.

*sad face*
Carbon miata has a nice, fairly modest duck tail trunk lid I’ve wanted for a while... But I can’t give up the rack!

“Note: will not fit cars with spoilers.”
There are other, slightly more expensive, racks that grip the sides of the trunk lid rather than the back & front. (Moss Miata has some.)
I like the Raceland one because it is less expensive, and fits fine for us “poors” with regular trunk lids. I keep mine hanging in the garage and can pop it on in about a minute. Very handy for those items just a little too big to fit in the trunk.

The spoiler is nothing fancy, it’s just the one that came with the car. When I found my Miata a few years ago, it just happened to have one. I like it, but had no influence on my purchasing decision. I’ll have to look into those racks, but in the meantime I’ll just work on packing lighter.

I super like this. I might consider this for my Firebird.

I was just making a joke about the spoilers being that fancy. Some of them do add a nice cosmetic touch, and if my car had one I’d probably be hesitant to remove it as well.
Based on the photos, it looks like this rack might work with the spoiler:

I think it would look extra good if you had the rack, those little chrome pieces forward of the trunk, and the antenna trim powder-coated to match your roll bar.

Hah I cant stand how the rack looks with nothing on it. It just makes the car look so “look at me I’m retro british roadster”. It is so practical that I don’t mind when I actually need it but I never leave it on when not in use. Plus with the roll bar is so conflicting and somewhat redundant since the bar can easily hold stuff down as well (alebit forgoing roof use).
Just such a weird combo with vs without the rack. And haha looking at this picture, I forgot how much brighter my wheels are when clean. They are a solid dark grey right now.
